Kannawidan is a festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur. This festival is to showcase province's rich culture in different fields like agriculture, arts, music, dance, food that is also known as OTOP (One Town One Product).
There were many activities held during this festival, including a bonsai exhibit for those who enjoy plants, an art competition and exhibit that was a wonderful experience not only for local artists but also for those who enjoy looking at paintings, a fun run that is open for anyone, gay pride parade was held and the member of the community surely had fun, a float parade, a concert was also held, pet show was very adorable to watch, and the performers of street dancing were so good.
ART EXHIBIT
This is most likely my favorite aspect of the festival. I went to the National Museum to see our local artist's beautiful masterpiece. I mustered the courage to join the competition (student category), but unfortunately I did not win, but that's okay because there will be many more contests in the future. I wasn't satisfied with my work because I did it during exam season, and I needed to revise my notes for the exam, so it wasn't easy. It's also my first time participating in such activities.
The Kannawidan festival is critical for promoting the products of each town in the province. Not only that, but local artists benefit from exposure. This also serves as a stress reliever, reducing negativity, which is why families and friends gather to commemorate the occasion in tandem. It enables to maintain our strong connection and preservation of our origin and culture. Additionally, it brings people together and create a sense of belonging in the community.
It fosters comradery and a sense of community among its participants. And a moment to appreciate all the hardships endured by our ancestors in the past and to celebrate their successes.
